Tonight I got a WhatsApp from my Mum. She has a temperature. My Mum is one of the #WaspiWomen and has been going to work at 3am since the lockdown started. She’s not a checkout operator, protected by Perspex screen so her COVID protection relies on people keeping a 2m
Separation from her. My Mum should have been enjoying her retirement. Instead she’s faced daily abuse from customers who don’t think the rules apply to them and placed herself at risk to ensure people can still get their essential items. There’s been far more people around
this weekend. Far more people stretching the rules and interpreting them to justify their own special requirements. My Mums temp might just be a cold or a common infection but for many other families tonight, their loved ones temp will be something worse. None of us like the
situation we are in but it’s not going to get easier if people keep stretching the rules as they see fit or thinking they’re outwitting the Government by finding something a supposed loophole. Every person flouting the rules is putting other people at risk. People like my Mum.
