Can I spread a bit of joy? Right on the edge of Deal in Kent is a village called Sholden. Someone in Sholden has four pet peacocks. I'd seen them occasionally on school runs.
With COVID lockdown, the peacocks have decided the town is theirs. They're roaming THE WHOLE TOWN daily.
On Monday they invaded a local car repair garage.
People have reported them everywhere. Friends in the North end of town, but also people in Kingsdown which is about three miles south of there.
Mill Hill, the old coal miners' part of town...
Deal's trendy north end. (TM)
There are of course some humourless arseholes around.
Anyway, you can now keep up with them on a dedicated Facebook group from which I stole most of these photos https://www.facebook.com/groups/278612543163418/?ref=share
TL/DR: Deal in Kent is basically the setting for a real life game of "Untitled Goose Game" except with peacocks.
(turns out peacocks love a bit of causal voyeurism)
(I also love the fact that the occasional post on Facebook groups accuses the owner of being neglectful because obviously they should have trained these birds better.
"NO, PEACOCKS, BAD PEACOCKS! DON'T GO OFF... PEACOCKING... YOU'LL MISS THIS WEEK'S PEACOCK OBEDIENCE CLASS!")
Man, I love this town. Nobody's even surprised. It's just "ah yeah, a gang of roaming peacocks, yep, I still live in Deal".
See, I'm not making this shit up. https://twitter.com/jeanpotter007/status/1254530035932954624?s=19
