So it was announced that school is closed for the rest of the year on Friday. Even though I knew it was coming, I did the ugly cry that night. Did not touch a spec of work on Saturday, cleaned out garage, thought, felt. Today I came up with a plan for last 6 weeks of 2nd grade.
Week 1: Feel our emotions. Learn new vocabulary, support each other. Angry = Furious, Sadness = Heartbroken, Hopeless = Devastated. Create safe space for feelings, emotions, no judgements. Read #RileytheBrave w/ @JessicaSinarski, process it. Week 1= Self-Awareness competency #SEL
Week 2: Use Reframing as strategy during this challenging situation . Now that we know how we feel how can, how do we act? Can we find positives in this situation? Can we practice gratitude? Help our family? I will model strategies. Week 2= Self-Management competency #SEL
Week 3: Think of ways to be helpers in #COVID19. Ask Ss how we can help others? Take S suggestions, put together project: can be notes of thanks to front line workers, food donations to those in need. I will get supplies to Ss if needed. Week 3=Social Awareness competency #SEL
Week 4: Work on service, helping project. Ss write notes and cards, mail to me or leave out for pick up, gather donations if able to make them, see if other family members can or want to help. Ask front line worker to join Zoom. Week 4=Relationship Skills Competency #SEL
Week 5: Document work of giving out donations in a safe, responsible way, wearing mask, social distancing while getting result of project into the hands of others. If we win #UNLESScontest, donate monetary prize to @FoodBankofDE. Week 5 = Responsible Decision Making #SEL
Week 6: Celebrate 2nd grade! End school year on a positive note with Ss. Reflect on our time together, especially since the school building closed. Reflect on our social emotional selves, our growth. Talk about how far we& #39;ve come, all we& #39;ve gained. I will never forget these Ss.
