"We shouldn't be dependent on China for critical infrastructure -- not for masks & certainly not for #5G", @n_roettgen warns. @HeikoMaas says Huawei reliance "undermining Europe's sovereignty". "EU can only exit Corona crisis strongly... if we can rely on our own capabilities".
In March, SPD Bundestag group complained with Merkel's @HBraun about "extremely slow-moving 5G process". No answer. @falkomohrs says it's "dramatic situation. Tactical manoeuvring of Altmaier, Seehofer & Merkel cost us a lot of time". Bundestag still hasn't received draft laws.
Two draft laws pending: telecommunications law (TKG) & IT security law. According to @handelsblatt TKG draft will only have technical criteria (no non-technical trustworthiness criteria as demanded by SPD, parts of CDU & much of opposition).
If economics ministry indeed in May/June presents draft TKG with just technical criteria that would violate promise @peteraltmaier violate made in December to @MetinHakverdi & others
https://twitter.com/MetinHakverdi/status/1252888291780767744?s=20
Bundestag should then take action to change draft §109 TKG.
According to @handelsblatt, trustworthiness check is part of draft IT security law according to "objectifable criteria". Unclear who takes decision. Critics fear Merkel tries to engineer in a way that she gets through with her Huawei open door policy. Crucial months ahead.
