The future of online learning is Premium Group Coaching Experiences. h/t @fortelabs

Here are some big ideas from Tiago's most recent public interview (recorded w/ @SparksRemarks )

Thread...
Premium group coaching experiences are where the money’s at- whether profit margins, student outcome, or teacher satisfaction.

Each of these words matter:
Premium: Focus on the top of the market and don’t compete on price, number of modules, or total video hours.

“You want to compete on quality. You want to go straight to the high end. And you can.”
Group: Cohorts are so effective. Students form community and teach, support, and learn from each other.

“Learning" isn’t downloaded from teacher's brain, rather it emerges from the group.

Teachers are experts AND facilitators.
Coaching: You’re creating an experience not selling a commodity. Success at this depends on intangibles like presence, quality of listening, how much you care, heart, and vulnerability....Impossible for competitors to copy.

Also, coaching is associated with premium $.
Experiences: Live experiences where “you had to be there” cause learners to pay attention, engage more, and ultimately experience higher levels of course completion and transformation.

(Asynchronous learning is not very effective i.e. MOOC’s, 100% recorded videos)
Online teaching brings together the best of teaching, software, coaching, consulting, big companies (global reach), small companies (close team), and MARGINS.

It's a dream business.
Fat margins create a sense of abundance. Makes Tiago want to share content for free (like this interview) and provide scholarships.

BASB provided 70 scholarships in the most recent cohort.
Some notes on audience: "If you can’t email them they aren’t your audience.”

Own your own platform (teachable vs skillshare/udemy).

And increase the value of your newsletter to increase number of subscribers.
Key metric to optimize is Revenue per Subscriber.

Revenue= number of students x price paid per student
On starting: First validate your offering in-person (Eventbrite). Provides instant feedback and allows for quick iteration.

Attention should go to testing and validating assumptions. It's impossible to mediate on questions and answer yourself.
For all of you who think you missed the boat already Tiago says:

“We’re so early. We’re like when people were using Bitcoin to buy pizzas. We are in the first 0.1% of what this movement is going to do.”
