I am 100% positive that this framing can be traced to a single consulting firm or university presidents group. Real reporting would find it and put it in context. https://twitter.com/indyfromspace/status/1254499178962718720
No one cares what I think and I’m just fragile enough right now to break professional face so let me let ‘er rip.

1. There is no moral or political imperative to open colleges in the fall. Any argument that starts from this claim is misleading self-motivated claptrap
2. It is better for institutions to die than for people to die and it is unconscionable that anyone in a position of authority should suggest otherwise.
3. Any higher education plan that does not account for the extreme, racial, classed and gendered inequities between types of institutions — some who can do these wild plans and others that cannot - is disaster capitalism 101.
4. Of all the times when the fate of Ivy League institutions should matter least to public discourse about “higher education” writ large, this is The Time.
5. The Brown University president has put forward an idea that is about saving Brown, not about saving people or higher education. Many Uni presidents will be doing the same sleight of hand in coming weeks. We cannot let them.
