'The Bermudian Sound'; a fettin'-vell thread:
This conversation isn't NEW to us Bermudians, artists specifically. Over the past decade or so, I've seen enough musicians, artists and enthusiasts alike, butt heads about what they think out defining sound will be.
From sampling treefrogs to Gombey drums, using our dialect, telling our stories and experiences, etc.

These are the components we have. Most of these components derives from another place, seeing as we're technically all immigrants regardless. We're a melting pot of culture.
We adopt a lot of our culture from the West Indies, the UK, Scotland, US, and last but certainly not least, from Africa.

The most infectious staple of our culture is derivative of -some- of these places listed.
And let's not forget the impact of globalization; our digital advancements have seen to it that sounds from specifically Atlanta have eviscerated most other regions.
A truely Bermudian "sound" doesn't necessarily exist. And likely won't, in the way that spectators imagine it could.

But here are a few examples that I think have come very close to defining that formula:
The Talbot Brothers are fire. This LP is a great listen and my favorite is '13 Kids'.
Ital Foundation used the Bermudian dialect in their music. An album far ahead of it's time.
@TheRealDerekG created Gumbase. He's the CLOSEST thus far to a Bermudian sound when it comes to production. Hands down. Argue with your limestone walls.
Too many names like Loctite, Rowdy Piper/Riddla, @ELSomner1, @Force1combat, Marvo, Stefan Johnstone, K.A.S.E. have been TRUE to this fucking culture, all dialect; no dilute. I'm a student of them. Too many instances to count.
You lot may not understand, but my development exists within the crux of these two albums being made. I really was BLESSED to be exposed to the creation and the people responsible for this. What a time.

By far the best Bermudian collaboration album/series. Y'all sleep.
Gonna add me, for the sake of chronological purpose. Everything I make is a -product- of these people I've mentioned in this thread. Many more influences, not enough characters. Every track title Bermudian ASF. Not a perfect album, but a great concept.
I understand the hunger for authenticity, and it doesn't mean you have to have one formula to be authentic. But I think these have been the closest to this "Bermudian sound" everyone has been searching for since TIME.

Thats just my opinion and if you have names, add em!
