It’s 1987, and we’re off to @McrMuseum. Usually, it went like this: whale, Dodo, bird calls, Egyptian sarcophagi and DONE. Yes, I know Stan’s a big deal, but I was all about the Dodo. But, not on this visit ...
This visit, we go into a dark exhibition space, with an AV about human sacrifice and garrotting. I am TERRIFIED and fascinated. It’s my first (and last) encounter with Lindow man 👇🏻
Lindow man - on loan from @britishmuseum brought me face to face with the past. Other people, with other gods, and other ways of life had lived where I’d lived ...
... 🤯🤯🤯
... it made me consider the world I lived in, the beliefs I’d been taught. It made me CURIOUS. I’ve not stopped being curious about people, society and religion ever since. It informed my university choices, and my career. Thank you @McrMuseum 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 ...
So, I love museums. Each and every one a portal to another world, another culture. Letting you look along and through time, making connections, learning, being curious 💓 ...
Today, charities around the UK are calling for people to #SaveOurCharities and take part in the #TwoPointSixChallenge. That counts for museums too. Large, small, helped by government, or independent, they ALL rely on charitable donations. And you. 💓
So, today, think about a museum that you love, that’s taught you something about yourself or others, that’s inspired you or given you solace. Or that just has a GREAT scone selection (let’s not forget the important things).
Lots of museums right now are worried. Really worried. They rely on onsite donations, ticket sales and yes, selling those scones. And at the moment they can’t. Many don’t have reserves, or even paid staff. They might not get through this closure period. 😞😞😞
So, if like me, you love museums (WHO DOESN’T LOVE MUSEUMS?) consider donating the price of a scone (or 26 scones) to a museum that you love. 💓🏛
And when all this is open, and you’re free to explore, go visit a museum you’ve never visited before. Donate. Join. Buy a scone (or a dinosaur pencil). Allow yourself to be transported ...
And if you’re in Scotland or want to be in Scotland 💓 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 , the lovely @burnsjilly and I want to share some amazing museums with you. Visit. Donate. Join. Enjoy. Be terrified, inspired and thirsty (I always get thirsty in museums) 💓🏛🤯
