The road to hell is paved with good intentions. A comment on the Gender Recognition Act from 2004. In retrospect Our politicians were spectacularly naive as is revealed by the âdebateâ. This comment is eerily prescient. Weâve legislated for a lie.
Again a reminder that it is not necessary to have *any* medical intervention to get a Gender Recognition Certificate. The shame of the âdebateâ is that only religious women seemed to be considered in respect of our right to single sex exemptions.
There is a person with a GRC who has had no lower surgery but has sued the NHS three times to obtain larger breasts. Did anyone anticipate the phenomenon of âshe-malesâ when drafting this bill?
As referenced in the previous tweet. Full links to that court case in this piece.

A legal opinion warned legislation would expose organisations to litigation. This church won the case but was saddled with huge costs. As we see most organisations donât take the risk so many services fail to apply the exemptions *allowed in law* to preserve single sex spaces.
As we now know there are many on here who believe in a literal change of sex and have a compulsion to remove sex markers or *alwaya* be treated as if they are literally the opposite sex. As we are seeing, with sex based differences in Covid mortality rates, #SexMatters.
Women should not have to claim a religious faith to demand female only spaces and services. Lammyâs dismissal of 61% of the population here is damning.
This is an astonishing claim. The tiny minority seem to be lacking in timidity in their demands upon women. Breathtaking naïveté? Emotional manipulation? You choose,
All fo the usual points are brought up in this debate. First up is the misunderstanding and misuse of people with disorders of sexual development. Also note that politicians are seriously considered SelfID.. Despite the idea being dismissed as absurd.
A reminder.Chromosomal abnormalities are not a feature of the patients referred to Gender Identity Clinics. Karyotype tests were abandoned for that reason. Intersex is not âtransâ. Itâs deployment in this âdebateâ springs from a compulsion to find a biological explanation.
Source is here for the Karyotype quote.

Another frequent argument is that old chestnut #LadyBrain. This also makes an appearance. (I believe this was Richard Boswell-Younger. Full #BornInTheWrongBody argument. Deeply damaging to womenâs rights and children who donât conform to sex stereotypes, who may be simply gay.
Here the difficulties of single sex spaces are brought up with the examples of open changing rooms etc. We are already seeing how this is playing out.
This is another common tactic. Avoid having to say penis bearers belong in female spaces & focus instead in TransMen. And again. We know that many donât remove their penis and have GRCs because it is in court cases. Prison policy allows male bodied people in womenâs estate.
Diane/Bill Parry sued a church to gain access to the womenâs prayer group. Pub landlords have had issues with this. (One in my town). Yet Lammy thinks we are just âprejudicedâ for defending womenâs rights.
A further tactic is to draw an analogy between sex segregation and apartheid. The MP is right to object to this. Itâs unworthy of Lammy to draw this comparison.
Thereâs more I have not covered sport or the issue of legal penalties that prevent disclosure of a persons natal sex. In prisons women are not allowed to be told if a male is to be housed with them. Even if it is clear to them.
I am pleased one person thought of wives & families

Correction. I typed 61% for the number of women in the UK. It should have been 51%.
