/? I’m sorry but trying to claim that orcs aren’t traditionally based on racist stereotypes either shows your ignorance or your racism. You have to remember, fantasy as we know it is based on western ideals and that unfortunately includes colonialism and ideas of-
/? -white idealization. For the longest time, fantasy didn’t include poc (let alone anyone who wasn’t British Christian) in their stories in a way that wasn’t demeaning. Humans? Elves? All British white/Christian. Goblins? Dwarves? Usually based on other European ethnicities-
/? And religions. When dark skinned pic and non European cultures were first introduced into fantasy it was usually as a monstrous race. And that monstrous race was usually evil or aggressive and coded as “lesser than” or “uncivilized” than the humans or elves
/? So yes, the history of orcs is rooted in racism. The entirety of fantasy is. And you cannot claim it isn’t racist when the root material is racist and has never been properly addressed but instead regurgitated and evolved to include new forms of racism
/? Another thing, orcs being seen as aggressive and sexually dominant, is based on the real way colonists would treat/view poc. It was done to dehumanize them and to justify the hatred, oppression, and othering of poc. It was also done in order to justify colonialism
There is a long history of this. The racist stereotypes you see in orcs can easily be found in the way poc have been treated throughout history. So to try to claim it isn’t racist or based on racism really just shows your ignorance or racist mindset
