The only positive aspects of this COVID19 has been
1. Global CO2 emission is expected to fall down by 6% due to the pandemic
2. River Ganga got cleansed in 3 weeks by itself which the govt had put tons of money trying to clean failed. Similar trend is seen all around the world
3. The ozone hole over the Arctic (almost 1 million KM) closed up
4. Almost every pollution level plummeted in most parts of the world.
5. Fossil Fuel pressure reduced due to pandemic lockdown
6. Wildlife and biodiversity has improved during this lockdown
BUT the humanitarian costs of this lockdown has been too high to be able to celebrate this.
And if the governments prioritize economic revival with the intention of a return to business as usual, environmental gains are likely to be temporary or reversed.
There is a need to bring out sustainable infrastructure and policies to maintain this environment gain and make it so that this does not become temporary but at the same time keep the economic, humanitarian costs in mind.
