okay, fuck okay, lets do this, so hq 391? let me talk your ears off about that for a second...

or to be more specific, let me talk to you about rice.

(thread)
Food is used in Haikyuu as an analogy for hard work, we know this already, from "food makes muscle" back in the loss against Seijou to Osamu's "these people play volleyball like its eating rice", and even the final meal we see Karasuno have.
+
Food becomes muscle, becomes the physical evidence that you've done something well. Good food is a good diet, a good training regimen, good opponents and good allies.

Rice is shown as the "ultimate food" in a sense, the thing you can eat and never get tired of.
+
Rice is the pure "love of the game" (which shone brighter in Atsumu), it's the endless hours hinata has put in, and it's the food that Osamu has decided to put his entire future into.

This brings me onto the twins relationship; even if Osamu himself is not on the court
+
he has still lived most of his life on the same court Atsumu has been on. He still feels the same exhilaration watching his brother score and SUPPORTING him in his own way. Osamu's relationship with volleyball can be easily boiled down to just a memory, but it's not-
+
the lessons he's learned, the bonds he's made, the support he's given, the fights he's had... these are all now part of him.

like the rice he's eaten, a permanent part of his muscles, a permanent part of his soul.
+
And isn't it incredible? That decades in the future these kids can still go back and remember those lessons. That even if Osamu never became a pro, all of this isn't "ultimately meaningless."

"What will clinging to a year ago, a week ago, an hour ago, get us? nothing."
+
Bc the very fact that the twins ever worked together, that they decided to go from "a through z" instead of "1 through 10", even if it IS for a childish reason like being cool, has permanently affected both of them. Evolution is necessary and it is something you can SEE happen-
+
and "Someone is always watching". We see for a second that the same coach the twins (and aran) had as children is the same one narrating the match- making this a Literal statement.

We also see that Atsumu learned that going pro isn't everything. That "the past is gone"
+
That all you need are the "muscles you grew". that memories are powerful but YOU YOURSELF are LIVING PROOF of the memories you've LIVED!!

and fuck man, I dont know how to say it without getting emotional, but its also that Kita was right all along, about everything
+
Kita's support as captain, even if he only ever played one match in his entire highschool career, meant something. He played for the love of doing things and doing things properly, for the love of supporting others.

And all of the lessons I've said? Came directly from him.
+
Kita Shinsuke never stood out, never won himself, but he did build muscle. The same muscle which he now uses to grow the grains which grow other's muscle. The ultimate support, the ultimate connection, lessons built through time and committed to more than just memories.
"Even if I didn't win I did build a whole lot of muscle. The world can throw anything it wants at me now--

I ain't afraid."
