So, thinking about the library as band aid. "Let's put social service applications online only." "What about ppl w/o internet?" "They can go to the library."
"Let's move homework online." "What about..." "They can go to the library."
"Our homeless shelters open at six pm." "It's below zero outside, what should people do?" "Go to the library."
"We don't want people to die on public property. Make sure library staff are trained to use Narcan."
"Put the census online.... oh, and go to the library."
"People need help applying for jobs. Go to the library."
"Early childhood learning ... go to the library."
I'm sure you can think of more. Libraries have stepped up. Gaps in our social infrastructure keep appearing.
I'm glad people go to the library. Glad libraries have done their best. But "go to the library" is not the answer for gaping holes being ripped in our social fabric so the rich can keep building their wealth and government can be drowned in the bathtub.
