Today, I'm writing letters to my Senators and Congressmember to #SaveThePostOffice. I stand with the @USPS and @APWUnational. I'm participating with @RuralOrganizing in a campaign to stand up to Trump and his GOP buddies to defund the public sector.
The US Postal Service provides essential service to all of us, even the poor and working class. I use the USPS every day. Rural communities are often not served by private carriers like UPS and FedEx and Amazon DOT com. The Post Office serves all of us.
Here are two articles you should read for background. First, @ddayen @newrepublic had a great piece about the postal service and #rural America a while back: https://newrepublic.com/article/152542/biggest-threat-postal-report-rural-americans-not-amazon
Second, @NicholsUprising @thenation had a great piece on the USPS in #rural during the Mike Bloomberg for Prez moment: https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/bloomberg-rural-post-office/
I also support the ideas/proposals by @MehrsaBaradaran to expand the USPS services to include banking. I already use the Post Office for money orders and shipping. I would love to see the USPS and the public sector take down payday lenders. https://www.fastcompany.com/90416889/the-answer-to-helping-the-unbanked-exists-on-every-main-street-the-post-office
