As Haikyuu comes to an end, we have to start saying goodbyes to a lot of characters, and the first step to that is witnessing the end of their arcs.
Ch. 391 serves as a great conclusion to Atsumu’s arc, about his understanding of Memories, along with Osamu and Kita.
Ch. 391 serves as a great conclusion to Atsumu’s arc, about his understanding of Memories, along with Osamu and Kita.
Throughout this game, Atsumu has reminisced about the past multiple times. We got the "happier life" flashback, and now remembering the first time he found setting cool, and of course his moments with his best captain Kita.
Atsumu APPRECIATES the past now, because it isn't simply days gone by. It isn't simply MEMORIES. It's blood, sweat and tears that are still a part of his soul and body. The yesterday is just another part of TODAY. Yesterday and Today do not need to be separated.
And only following the Today is reckless and can hurt. Eg. Twins’ reckless use of the quick then getting block and Hinata’s lack of self care leading to a fever.
Kita had reached this mental fortitude in HS. The today fired him up but he also didn't disregard the past. He knew, and now Atsumu has learned, that the past is a part of a person always. One can live with the yesterday and the today together. I believe this was Kita's lesson.
Just as dutifully he worked as a captain, he does now as a farmer knowing that his favourite twins realize that.
Osamu is a big player in Atsumu's journey. He is the 1st one that truly made Atsumu feel strong. He gave him his partnership and confidence in his sets.
However, Osamu leaving to pursue his dreams was a harsh truth for Atsumu. But they vowed each other, just like they competed in volleyball, they would compete at happiness.
Happiness is extremely important to the Miya twins, and they might not show it but each of them wants the other to be very happy. This competition is merely a way for them to push each other, to force each other to reach the summit of happiness.
As a result of the vow, neither will stop until they are the happiest they can be, and thus proud of the lives they've lived.
Atsumu knows that triumphs, losses, happiness and sorrow of the past make him stronger today. He is no longer bound to live by only what today throws at him. He has the wisdom to use everything inside of him to be the best setter he can be.
And that's what he is all the time for his teammates. The Jackals might fool around with him a lot, but the simple fact of the matter is that they entrust upon him every single point, every single game and every single day to be THEIR SETTER.
This is Atsumu Miya.
