Strikers - outside the elite 👀

In the final of my ‘outside the elite’ analysis threads, I use data to find the best strikers outside of the PL ‘big 6’ and other UCL 19/20 clubs from the top 5 EU leagues.

5 graphs, ones to watch and player radars 👇
Who are the most prolific goal-scorers?

Here we find the highest-performing players in terms of goal-scoring this season. Comparing goals and xG is only a tiny part of understanding a striker’s performance with many factors below also needing to be considered.
Who are the most dangerous shot-takers?

This chart aims to show the strikers who shoot with good quality. Whilst it is a good indicator of the most dangerous shot-takers, also consider the charts below which show where strikers are most involved in play.
Which strikers are often involved in the penalty area?

To further identify strikers who perform a traditional number nine role well, this graph uses metrics that find the most active strikers in the penalty area within the context of their overall involvement.
Which strikers provide added attacking involvement?

Building on the previous metrics, this graph looks to identify strikers who also have the ability to contribute in attacking phases of play before a goal-scoring opportunity arrives.
Who ranks well in terms of expected goal contributions?

To finish, this graph finds players who contribute well in scoring goals as well as providing chances for teammates too.
Standout players 🔥

From the five graphs above, I’ve used metrics that include a number of key elements needed to be a top-performing striker as well as others that find well-rounded strikers.
1. Ciro Immobile (30)

The Lazio striker has been in superb form this season and he tops a number of charts above. Without his goal-scoring influence, the Serie A side would be nowhere near title contention.
2. Jamie Vardy (33)

He’s one of the most potent strikers in European football this season and this thread proves that. Vardy has become less reliant on pace and demonstrated great skill within the penalty area.
3. Wissam Ben Yedder (29)

The Monaco striker ranks really well across the board, but his impressive performances above xG numbers show how valuable the Frenchman has been this season.
Ones to watch 👀

As usual, there are some lesser-known names that rank well across all five graphs. My three ones to watch picks include strikers that I think will develop into world class players in the coming seasons.
1. Breel Embolo (23)

The Borussia Monchengladbach striker goes under the radar given the success of Plea and Thuram, but Embolo ranks really well here. High rankings across the board show him to be a well-rounded striker.
2. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (23)

Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Goodison Park has seen him put faith in Calvert-Lewin and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the next year or so.

A late push for a spot at the Euros?
3. Alexander Isak (20)

The youngster has been a key part of Real Sociedad’s push for Champions League football this season and ranks well here. Isak’s development over the next 12 months will be interesting to watch.
This is the final segment of my 'outside the elite' threads so, firstly, I hope they've been of some use. Secondly, feel free to DM me with any requests for future threads.
