Yeah... so the trusted trader programme is not what we should be focusing on now. For so many reasons.

Topic still so misunderstood. Several points.
TL:DR it’s a secondary issue.

Such TT scheme would need to be recognised by the EU meaning the EU would need to agree to a new scheme which is not likely.
In order for it to simplify customs processes such as customs declarations.

/2
Even if that happened TT companies still need to submit all customs documentation...

Benefits?

/3
Let’s not forget that customs processes between GB and NI will be unique or at least will involve unique elements. We don’t yet know what these will be so what are we simplifying with a TT programme?

/4
Unless such scheme applies to all companies trading between GB and NI it’s a bit redundant at this point cause you will still have to come up with a separate scheme for companies outside it.

/5
Basically, simplifications for “frequent fliers” are a secondary issue ONCE the actual principles of the system (i.e. determining goods at risk etc) are worked out. Not something the UK Gov needs to prioritise now.

/6
Especially given the fact that the UK Gov has its own areas of the Protocol to clarify: reimbursements/waivers – ONCE it’s clear which goods and based on what criteria are subject to tariffs and hence to reimbursements/waivers

/7
Obviously, the main question is about where the goods end up not whether the company is “trusted” – even trusted companies would need to follow the logic and processes for determining 1) goods at risk 2) final destination. And provide evidence. Again what would a TT change?

/8
It’s a sequencing issue. You don’t design a customs simplification before it’s clear what the customs framework will be – and before understanding what the process you’re trying to simplify looks like!

/9
Fully agree with the main gist of the thread (worth reading the whole thing)- action needed, the UK needs to demonstrate it's taking its obligations seriously etc - this is just a point on the TT scheme.

/10
Customs terms get mixed up and thrown around so often it is important to be a bit careful here.

TT scheme already had its time in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

It's still not a silver bullet solution... Not to Brexit and not to the Irish Sea border.
