What we need is a reorientation of power, not a left-flavored form of charity. There's a reason Jeff Bezos support UBI, and it's not because he is into equality and democracy. https://twitter.com/Ilhan/status/1254414294902595586
During a crisis sure provide subsidies. But long-term a UBI for workers is bad, it'll be super easy to use it as a coercive force. Far better to create unions, coops, local stores, and open competitive markets so people have the power to protect themselves.
Just an fyi, Alaska's universal basic income fund excludes convicted felons. That should give lefties a hint that placing income dependency on the state enables the state to exclude people based on political choices. If you think the UBI will be a strike fund, well, that's cute.
A government that will not allow people to form unions is a government that will exclude striking people from getting access to a "universal" basic income as long as they are on strike. How is this not obvious?
