The amount of ppl that were interested in hearing ME! this time last year was acc overwhelming. It was her biggest moment to prove she isn’t a manufactured basic popstar and i’m not trying to pile on the hate on ME! but it was such a wasted opportunity to show her talent :/
The song is not bad, but the fact that it was her most hyped song of her career with a 2 week buildup and countdown all for a song with the most basic lyrics basically confirmed to locals that she’s still another popstar with good visuals.. i just hope she picks a strong lead ts8
Obv she isn’t anything of the sort, but the amount of ppl that were genuinely interested in 26/4 compared to any of her other releases is undeniable. She’s never had that much promo for a song ever and it just makes me sad thinking it was for her weakest song on the album :/
I understand that ME! is the best song to represent a new beginning/the biggest contrast to reputation, but it just did nothing for her given the climate of the streaming era where the happiest pop songs like ME! just do not do well. Cruel Summer or ITHK could’ve been amazing
Those two songs are obv still very poppy but, they’re very strong lyrically with very strong lead-single-like production. They still sound very fresh and unlike anything else on the pop charts bc it gives you that classic Taylor vibe that locals all LOVE.
The reason why ME! didn’t see longevity was bc it’s too happy of a song to connect with locals who dominate streaming services. In a climate where pop music is dying and hip-hop is on top, releasing the most poppiest song ever already puts u at an extreme disadvantage
Anyways my goal from this thread is not to just bash ME! Like i said i still think it’s a great song! I just personally wish it wasn’t the lead bc it was the most hyped up song of her career and Taylor is just so fking talented i wish the world got to see a song that proved it x
