So how would a precautionary school opening plan look? It would have something like this. 1/6
1.Develop policies to keep as many children at homes as possible. This will decrease exposure & protect kids going to school & teachers. Need online options, parental support. 2/6
2.For those who go to school, keep class sizes low so can space kids. Can do this by having alternating hours and/or low # going to school. Make sure PPEs (not just homemade), washing stations/sanitizer easily available to students & teachers. 3/6
3.Constant testing, preferably through devices using saliva. 4/6
4.If someone tests positive, confirm, but shut down class/school immediately. Contact tracing to isolate infected and contacts. Reopen when infection risk controlled. 5/6
5.Keep above in place until either (a) vaccine widely available; or (b) effective antivirals widely available. This means should plan entire 2020-21 school year along these lines. 6/6
This is just an example. I will leave actual plan to experts. But I expect to see something like this, with lots of detail, before have confidence there is a plausible plan.
