The overreach of the cops isn't limited to poor and helpless fruit-sellers or vendors putting out saffron flags or writing "Hindu" on their shop banner.

Here is Sachin Sunil Savant, a CRPF Cobra Commando. He's chained and made to sit on the floor at Belgavi, Karnataka.

Thread.
Sachin was washing his bike outside his home when a policeman accosted him for not wearing a mask. An argument ensued. Sachin reportedly said that he was within the limits of his own house and that is why he didn't wear a mask.
He was handcuffed and dragged to the police station.
Sachin Savant was treated in this despicable way despite declaring at the outset that he is a CRPF COBRA COMMANDO.
According to reports, not only was he beaten up, his clothes were torn and he was made to walk barefoot to the police station.
Then an FIR was registered against him
The incident happened in the afternoon of April 23 at Yaksamba village in Chikkodi Taluk of Belgavi district of Karnataka.
FIR mentions IPC 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), IPC 504, 505 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke)
"...The CRPF jawan then held the collar of our constable and started kicking him, the head constable then had to rescue his colleague, that's when you see him using the lathi, based on which the FIR was registered, said Belagavi SP Laxman Nimbargi.
There is NO version from Savant
It is obvious that there was an argument and then a fight ensued. The policeman shouldn't have taken on a commando.
But what happened next belies any civilised society.
The police usually chains dreaded criminals like this!
But is this how we treat our jawans?
Fellow Cobra Commandos say that he was paraded barefoot on the streets and not given water for several hours thereafter. The FIR was registered against him without informing his controlling authority.
Neither @crpfindia or @CoBRASECTORHQ were informed https://twitter.com/MITHANSHU/status/1254237428010962944?s=20
We applaud cops as #CovidWarriors but this is not how you treat actual warriors.
A COBRA COMMANDO is conditioned to hit back if attacked. COMMANDOS are trained (for years!) to thwart attacks.
They wouldn't take assaults lying down.
That's not his fault but his training speaking.
Handcuffed & chained, in tears, begging for mercy - this is not how we want to see our Jawans. Not to mention that you are treating a CRPF Commando like this.
What happened to dignity? What about Human Rights?
The concerned officer must be suspended!

Dear Cops. Please educate yourself about the COBRA Commandos. Please know what he does for the country.
The COBRA is country's elite commando force who're specialised in asymmetrical warfare. They fight terrorists and naxalites. Mostly in extreme terrains.

The video of the assault on the CRPF Commando.
Notice how a cop is holding his pants as he argues with other cops. He is constantly pulling the pants. Notice for how long Cobra Commando Sachin Savant holds his patience. Then he's attacked with a lathi
Here is Sachin Sunil Savant in his uniform. His officers say that he is an outstanding commando with many dangerous missions in his credit.
Sachin belongs to the 27 COBRA COMMANDO BATTALION is currently on leave. He was supposed to join his unit soon after the lockdown ended
What Sachin was trying to explain to the cops was that the bike is his official transport (as there is no public transport) and he was servicing it.
The Elite Cobra Commandos are always on standby for any emergency call for the nation. Even during leaves.
But nobody heard him out
Cobra Commando Sachin Savant was not loitering around. He wasn't breaking the lockdown.
He was servicing & cleaning his bike so that he can reach the nearest CRPF Command if he gets an emergency call to join his unit.
He was standing outside his home!
RELEASE HIM NOW
