I've heard some variation of the following dozens of times, mostly from proudly dumb no-mask low-info boomers: "I just go shopping all day, there's nothing else to do." Or in one case, "I get bored and go to Home Depot and walk around every day." Often zero criticism follows.
I don't need to waste your time telling you how irresponsible that kind of mentality is, but really it brings up something else that I feel is a phantom menace in this whole thing, and that is older adult peer pressure. These people are basically high schoolers.
And they are terrified of standing up to people they know. I see it every time I go food shopping - there will be some older no-mask Boston tough guy talking to someone they know. That person will be uncomfortable, because the talker is too close, but they won't say anything.
It's some of the most pathetic behavior I have ever observed. Obviously Fox ain't helping, but it's a whole lot deeper than that.
