A thread on #halal certification. It is deeper than one thinks&more sinister. https://twitter.com/Sanjay_Dixit/status/1254052768433623040
1. Let's say,in a South East Asian country with a majority in the halal religion,a foreigner was running a meat processing plant since many decades.his 2nd generation was now in the business. (1/10)
2. He got his products Halal certified through the normal mode, there was a cleric who would do the needful.all of a sudden his halal certification was cancelled.(2/10)
http://3.It  was a matter of his factory&the numerous people who worked there. He appealed.he was told he would be cleared if a cleric of the administration's choice would be appointed,at very nominal fees.(3/10)
4. The fees was really nominal.the man agreed.all was well.till one day the cleric came up&said the process can't be certified halal.for that, the butchers had to be religiously trained, preferably of the halal religion.(4/10)
5.facing danger of a closedown, the man offered his long standing butcher crew 02 options. A golden handshake or conversion to the halal religion. Around 10% left. The others,converted.(5/10)
6.Soon,the cleric was back again, harping again the process need to be further 'halal-ised'. "You see", he said,"we have to be sure that the animals are being sourced from halal bred livestock."(6/10)
7. The factory was a major buyer from the livestock farmers. When placed by the new eligibility terms, again, many converted to keep their livelihood on.(7/10)
8. The cleric was again back with a new demand. This time he wanted the feed being given to the animals be grown in a halal manner by halal people. It was time for the feed supplying maize farmers to convert.(8/10)
9. In a span of a few years, the factory that was livelihood to so many became a single point of exponential conversion.(9/10)
10. Halal actually is a means of conversion by hitting your livelihood. It is irrelevant whether you eat or supply meat. You will be picked up when your turn in the chain comes. (10/10)
