the black capitalist elite does great harm, because they frame structural issues dominating black life as being reflective of our individual inability to be creative and strive for better.
they become a model for what's possible when you are determine, when in fact, the processes through which they get a seat on the table are defined by exploitation, patronage networks, among many other immoral activities.
and for those who benefit off the deeply anti-black economic and political systems today, they use these folks as a rebuttal. to counter our demands for these systems to be undone.
furthermore, it is for these exact reasons that we must be weary of and critically engage the language of entrepreneurship, given that they too model themselves according to the black capitalist elite.
in the art and creative sector, i wonder whether the art does not sufffer, or not. becuase you have instances where authentic, honest and well articulate storytelling is compromised by the desire to form part of this club of folks who've demonstrated that it can be done,
