One of the most drastic changes to my church experience when I lived in China was when we met with Christians for worship not everyone got to sing every week and no one could sing loudly.

When we had a retreat on Thailand, the most incredible and beautiful worship experience I’ve been part of was getting to see, from the stage, Chinese Christians sing with abandon and raised hands for the first time in their lives. It made me think of Moses’s unveiled face.

Often during worship I stand and take in the volume of the congregation and pause to appreciate that we meet regularly, in large numbers, with no volume restrictions for security reasons. Worshipping in China changed how I worship in the US.

I hope worship in lockdown changes the way we worship when we can come back together and worship as a body in one place again.
