So I've been watching The Wire by day (4th time) and the Office by night. And I have thoughts spawned out of pure boredom.

Jim and Michael's relationship dynamic is the same as Avon/Stringer's in this way.

Follow me, if you will.
Stringer/Jim were more learned than their counterparts and saw themselves as smarter. Maybe they were. They also needed to feel smarter because that was their identity. That's how they valued themselves.
Michael/Avon were the simpleminded neanderthals. But they knew how to do shit that didn't fall within textbooks or business meetings. Avon always seemed to know the best way to go about things based on feel, intuition and a deep grasp of interpersonal relationships
Remember when Michael went on those sales calls and did all sorts of stuff to show his worth by cutting costs and saving jobs? Remember when Avon was directing traffic from jail?
They had skills that weren't easily quantifiable but also that Jim/Stringer didn't see as valuable because, again, it fell outside of their understanding of intellect.
And when Stringer was left to his own devices to run things? It was a disaster. He was breaking codes, losing customers all while lecturing people about inelastic products or whatever. Remember when Jim was a manager later in the series?
Remember how much of a disaster that was? Remember how Michael had to keep bailing him out?
Michael and Avon valued the relationships and they loved the job itself above all. Jim and Avon loved themselves and their ideas of superiority that they garnered from feeling better than the guys who were above them. They performed smartness because that was their personality.
Michael and Avon just wanted to get the job done and take care of their people.
That's all I got...I hope you enjoyed wasting 5 minutes of your life you'll never get back lol
