Edited @YoungStarPhils for 4 years in my mid 20s. It was an amazing place where young people & their opinions were taken seriously within one of the country's biggest broadsheets. Sad that @PhilippineStar doesn't seem to see the value in supporting that anymore. #SaveYS
. @YoungStarPhils was started in 1996 as a newspaper section when @milletmananquil realized that kids didn't read the paper. It was a powerful idea even then—giving young writers space in a national broadsheet. They discovered writers like Jessica Zafra and Erwin Romulo. #SaveYS
In 2010, @paolorenzana (the future founder of @TeamMagPH) took over @YoungStarPhils & reinvented YS into a platform for Filipino youth & their talents. Internal tagline was: "Youth and their passions minus the bull." #SaveYS
I edited @YoungStarPhils from 2011-2015 & was always so proud about how YS championed then up & coming talents like @hannahreyphoto @givemesam @kelsmerritt. We did an annual list called Fresh Produce that highlighted talents who were just about to take off. #SaveYS
We also threw a fun party called #YSProm. (The first prom queen was @kelsmerritt, prom king was @LAAGUINALDO) @SaveYS
. @YoungStarPhils always felt like a community & even more when @margabee @millimetrs @nlpz @emvpascual & team brought that community online. So sad that after bringing it closer to readers, @PhilippineStar is taking it back to a print-only operation. #SaveYS
Making any media brand a print-only operation in 2020 feels crazy—but especially when it’s a publication for young people who probably don’t have the same relationship with the print product. #SaveYS @YoungStarPhils @PhilippineStar
