SAVING THE "HONOR"
It sounds very noble when we say we save the honor & dignity of a person by saving them from rape. But the very notion itself is very poisonous as it subliminally suggests that a rape victim loses her honor & dignity.

"DEFILEMENT" OF A WOMAN
Another age-old myth is that a rapist destroys the purity of the victim. This always makes the victim feel she has lost her value & she's guilty of not protecting it. These notions hurt the victim than the criminal.

"NOBLE ACT" OF MARRYING A VICTIM
Men are praised for marrying rape victims as if it's a very very generous thing. Nice it may sound, this very notion suggests a victim is unworthy & the man did a favor. She just had a dreadful experience. She's as worthy as any other woman.

THEY DESERVE RESPECT, NOT SYMPATHY
Sympathy hardly helps a rape victim. Rather it's a disrespectful thing. While we should empathize with the pain they must have gone through, we ower them a lot of respect for surviving it & moving on with their lives. Not sympathy.

So I suggest you think twice before resorting to these seemingly "kind" gestures & be more respectful & empathic towards them. I dedicate this thread to all those sisters & daughters who survived such enormous pain & still won their battles. Doing a separate thread for males
