Let's say this today. Kohli doesn't have a set of core that he's identified as the ones he wants since he believes in horses for courses but it's not easy to have consistency if you don't back individuals together. He's shuffled too many players too regularly. I https://twitter.com/vinayfinehai/status/1254326533541392384
India dominates bilaterals and series based on individuals (regular ones - Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Bumrah) coming good. There isn't much planning into what if we lose top three early. No exposure. If exposure, not enough backing in continuation. Players won't be at their best.
Every captain learns with time, Kohli will as well. Rayudu, Chahal, Kuldeep classic case of backing till it came off but none once they didn't perform. Everybody can't perform every game, you've got to put more trust. KulCha pair broken after one bad game vs ENG in WC.
Rayudu was backed for 2 years but not after two bad series. Players fear their position with such examples. Kohli is an outstanding batsman and sets high consistency benchmark but he can't expect others to perform at same rate. He's a GOAT. There is a difference!
India has quite a lot of good, young players with varied skills, they will have to be backed and planned and given roles specifically. Else will keep going back to people who are tried and tested but not working. Khaleel, Shardul, etc.
