Rahul played as opener when Rohit was injured ,his scores were - 8,5,11

Rightly not taken into CT 17 , rahane taken as backup opener

Rahul then got chance in sl series in same year at no 3,4,5, - scoring
DNB, 4,17,7
Removed from also odi

Then he was not selected for home series vs aus & nz
Didn't go to SA also in 2018

Then selected in eng Odis on basis of 100 in t20I in same tour
Played at no 4 in 1st 2 odi
Score : 9 not out and 0
Then again removed from last odi

Didn't get to play 2018 home series vs WI
Didn't get select for aus 2019 odi series

Then got selcted in 2019 home series vs aus

He got only 1 match in aus home series in 4th odi
That too at no 3
Scoring 26 coming to bat after big 1st wicket partnership
Again removed from team

Then again as a surprise he was selected as backup opener + a new no 4 in Odis for wc suddenly

Mind you Rahul didn't open in Odis from 2017, and he was selected as back up opener
Also he didn't bat at 4 for Odis for 1.5-2 years was suddenly no 4

Then he started wc as our no4 ( his last game at no4 was in 2018 scoring 0)
Did ok in 1st game vs sa scoring 26 and stitching pp with rohit
Then came at no 6 in aus game scoring 11*

When dhawan got injured
He was asked to open in midway of wc

Remember last time Rahul opened before wc under kohli was in 2017 Jan vs england
Suddenly he was our opener

He did his job fairly as opner in WCs
Scoring impt runs for India

Then he played WI series as opener as dhawan was still not fit, did good there as well

Then when dhawan got fit in aus home series
In 1st odi he was asked to bat at 3, he scored 47
2nd odi he was asked to bat at 5 scoring match winning 80
3rd odi he had to open after dhawan got injured mid game

Now only in last 3 Odis he got 1 fixed position of wk batting at no5 vs NZ
Doing more than good

But I m sure, If he fails even 1-2 series , he will be dropped

Rahul has batted 27 inngs under kohli
14 as opener
3 at no 3
5 at no 4
4 at no 5
1 at no 6
When he was finally doing good as opener, he was given no 5
Let's see how many inngs he will be given here

He was not selected for 6-7 odi series from when kohli became permanent captain in Odis
Was not given single one complete series at a given position in between CT 17 and WC 19

If rahul becomes as succesful odi player, no one should be saying that kohli backed him
