the comment section on all of the posts on these pages is so fucked up, really.

caste is a difficult convo to have in kerala for me, cause people have a 100 excuses to explain away all the casteist/racist/classist/sexist crap that we've pulled all these years. https://twitter.com/AbbakkaHypatia/status/1254312759350550530
I don't think I'll be able to explain it properly, but any attempt at correcting the existing status quo is accused of being nitpick-y, overly aggressive/sensitive, and divisive. We are snowflakes who can't be grateful for the "100% literacy" progressive state that they live in.
I might live in a state that is far safer than anything else this country has to offer, having a caste structure that is different from the traditional one in the North, with the paternal naming scheme that a lot of us follow, and with a comparatively "woke" crowd, yes, all true
But we can be better people. Almost every slur in this place is rooted in misogyny and casteist stereotypes. But they've been normalised to a point that talking about them, asking that people stop being so ignorant about the pain that comes with these slurs, that's somehow wrong.
The thought process is that all of this is harmless, that the people trying to call you out are privileged af, who despite their "affluent" backgrounds (which in itself in a whole other discussion) have got by through these unfair kindnesses that the constitution showered on them
the ones calling you out are picking fights that do not need to be fought, must take greater pride in their origins, are spoiling all the fun, are making me angry to the point that I'm deliberately going to use it from today on so I can piss more people off.
I've had a better time with all this. I don't usually engage because people won't change. They're unwilling. I am more "privileged", more fortunate, so I've only had to go through a "tiny bit" of discrimination. I don't get to speak, as a few have reminded me over the years.
Caste not being explicit is an easy way out, too. Everything is not what we call it to be, but a slightly less offensive version. Casteism is classism. Classism is just teaching someone decorum. Racism is "okay because 3rd world, Brown, we are victims too", misogyny is, well..
Everything is okay because we are in the 21st century. Finding the origins for "harmless" locker room talk makes things awkward, ruins relationships, stops people from having a good time. Any attempts to do the same will be looked down on.

Sampoorna Saaksharatha Zindabad.
It's the same people going around these pages, offended by everything starting from the Nair/Menon discourse to people questioning the subtle bigotry in our movies. The fact that I even vaguely one of these guys.

End of thread. I see no hope. https://twitter.com/AbbakkaHypatia/status/1254315785540890630?s=19
