I always knew, but last night... I found out for myself.

The Nigerian Police will fail you.
I watch 911 response clips and do “Awww”.
Last night, gunshots around my estate and then in front of our house. I nearly passed out. Together with our friends who we alerted, we called...
the closest police station to us.
Our friend had already called on our behalf. We were chatting on WhatsApp. Couldn’t make calls Cos we were hiding somewhere in the house with lights off.

When I heard another gunshot, my life flashed before my eyes. I decided to take the risk...
and call them myself.
The response of whoever picked up, made the gunshot sounds sound endearing.

“Madam, calm down. Ok... are you the one Mr R called for? I hope it is not panic o, Cos we wouldn’t want to waste our time. Infact what is even your name? Do you live there? Etc”
I was livid.
“Sir, I am locked up in a tiny basement room. Calling you Cos I don’t know who else to call. It took desperation for me to decide to make this call. The least you can do is get here and check what’s happening outside my house. How can I be joking with this?”
He ended the call.
My husband was not there with me, he was quietly moving round the house switching off all the lights and appliances. When I told him what happened. He wasn’t surprised. He said “You’re acting surprised. What did you expect”.
I messaged our friend to tell him the condition. Messaged my elder cousin to tell her to pray for us. Then I lay flat on the floor. Our friend called them back, told them again.
Long story short. It’s 8:40am, been more than 12 hours since it happened. No police in sight.
My husband and neighbors had to summon courage to go out and face whatever it was. Checked our environment to be sure. Alerted the estate gate/‘security’ men. Did some night watching before we were convinced to sleep a wink.

I don’t know what happened out there. But God saved us
My recommendations for the police force:
- Train all your officers in customer service and follow up. Customer service shouldn’t be a unit. It is the whole organization.

For you?
After COVID19, if you want to jand... my dear japaaa. No guilt. Security is your basic human right!
Thank you all for your concern and prayers. God bless you all. Last night was a learning curve.

Dear @PoliceNG, you failed us last night. I pray I’m never in a situation where I have to ask you for your help again.
Wouldn’t want to stress you for security reasons🙏🏽
