Good afternoon all! Today we will be discussing "How to add aggression to your vocals in your mix!" (A thread)
Before recording your vocals, make sure -

+ The singer is a span away from the mic to avoid occasional clipping due to the loudness

+ Singer is warmed up to avoid cracks or tiredness

+ Double track and duplicate the files after recording
It should sound something like this straight off the bat.
Make sure to group them into a single bus so that you can adjust the levels later on with the other instruments.

Without further ado, lets get busy 😏
Firstly, the idea of this effect is to blend the 2 tracks

+ 1 being heavily distorted and emphasis on the high mids

+ 1 being mixed on how a standard clean vocal track should sound like.
For the clean track it is best advised to mix as dry as possible meaning that, dont use too much fx ; because the key is to get the "IN YOUR FACE" tone n not the dreamy stuff the millennial's adore

For instance, i used
+ eq
+ deEsser
+ a FET compressor
+ a bit of reverb n delay
The clean vox should sound something like this
Next, our objective for the next vox track is kill the distortion for the vocals to act as a harmonic and compliment the clean track.

This is easier to pull off because the plugins does most of the work and the plugins i use is:
+ Izotope's vinyl
+ Saturation knob
+ Stock EQ
For the eq - cut any frequency below 1k and cut everything above 10k because we want the high mids

For the saturation - turn the knob as high as your ears can take

For the vinyl - Choose the year 1930's for a vintage tone

So it should sound something like this ...
After you managed to mix those separate tracks, its time to blend them together.

My panning and volume settings would be -
+ Distortion 50-50 (-2db)
+ Clean 15-15 (0db)

But you can also adjust according to taste and this is what it should sound like
All the best in your mixes fellow producers and engineers!

If there's any questions feel free to dm or mention me here. Have a great day and happy mixing!!

Pss. Here's a preview of the song i used in this thread 😇
