Donald Trump is unprepared for this moment in every way imaginable. That he can't use his money, power, or position to bully a pandemic out of existence should be a real wake-up call to the "fuck your feelings" bigots who are his base.

Trump fans supposedly love him because he's the only guy who "tells it like it is" in a world supposedly censored by "political correctness." But this situation, maybe more than any other, is revealing that it's always been a massive projection.

Donald Trump is the most dishonest national "leader" in the modern history of our country (probably ever, really). People are dying because of his constant lies, lack of empathy, narcissism, and sociopathy.

I don't think Trump fans were invested in truth. They, like him, are bullies who sought cultural dominance and to "make the libs cry" via their cruelty. And now, it's blowing back in our faces, and even in theirs, in ways they never anticipated.

I don't have schadenfreude that the lives of many Trump fans have now been destroyed. Many of them will support him no matter what. Mostly, I just think this country remains tragically broken for a multitude of reasons, and Trump is just the logical endgame.

That is not to say we should give up, just that - especially now - we need to rely on state and local leaders when we can. And, uh, condolences if your state and local leaders are Republicans, because that party is a fucked-up-beyond-all-repair cult of white male supremacy.
