Title: Mandatory Work From Home Is The (Near) Future Of Work

Note: Insights in this thread are based on 21 enquiry calls with CxOs of global firms (5000+ employees) that @Greyhound_R has responded to in the past week.

#GreyhoundStandpoint #COVID19 #WFH #FutureOfWork
1/ First things first, this is a first for most CxOs who don't have the necessary experience in managing a crisis of a similar nature.

- Nearly all, of course, have hands-on experience with a financial crisis and also may be geopolitical events, but nothing of this scale ever.
2/ That means most are learning on the go & putting the best possible foot forward. Of course, they are consulting their boards, other CxOs in the team, and even borrowing from their peers and other support groups.

- But one thing is for certain, nobody has a playbook on this.
3/ Considerations ahead of CxOs and their boards are of a wide variety spanning:

- employee welfare
- business continuity
- managing cashflows
- choppy revenue
- force majeure
- managing expenses
- vendor payouts
- shareholder dividends

- Net-net, the future remains uncertain.
5/ One wrong and much can go wrong. So, CxOs and boards are being rather careful and doing the best they can from what they can decipher of the situation currently.

- Do remember that nobody has access to historic data or dependable #economic #data to base their decisions on.
6/ After having spent considerable time, energy and money in enabling WFH for their employees, the very next task CxOs all have ahead of them in BCP for the remainder of 2020.

- While BCP has many aspects to it, one key area is ensuring the least possible disruption in delivery.
7/ The need to ensure least possible disruption has a bearing on a few areas:

- availability of tech to support remote ops
- ensuring security of company data
- ability of the workforce to work together remotely
- employee welfare during extended period of uncertainty in 2020
8/ While most companies have either already invested in (or are in the process of investing) in the technology and security, it's ensuring employee welfare throughout 2020 that is of deepest concern to most.

- Alongside BCP, CxOs are truly leading with empathy during #COVID19.
9/ Naturally, there are no easy or right answers to this one and decisions that are being taken totally depend on the nature of the business, the ability of the company to manage current business scenario and more.

- Employees contracting the virus is a top concern for all.
10/ Some of the decisions being taken currently in order to balance the need for business continuity and employee welfare are:

- employees are being divided into batches with a similar mix of skill sets

- these batches will only come to office in turns and not for entire month
11/ In addition:

- in the event of anyone contracting the virus, the entire batch of employees will be quarantined

- arrangement are being made to restrict access to common areas like pantry, toilets, lifts et al

- screening of employees to be made mandatory at time of entry
12/ As this and a lot more is happening, what is certain is that in the near term, how we work is all set to change.

So, what can employees expect?

- if your role is not critical and doesn’t require you to be in office, you can well expect to #WFH for remainder of 2020.
14/ In addition:

- Employees must be prepared to visit office alternate weeks or for less than 50% time in the coming months.

- Of course, this will wary by the org type, role and the overall need to be present in office premises.
15/ As employers role out strict measures around employee presence at the office premises, what’s certain is that a lof of professionals will be largely operating from home for the remainder of 2020.

- And if this goes well, do well expect this become a permanent feature.
16/ As mandatory WFH policy is being planned for, on sidelines, CxOs are also having to make tough calls on:

- Office & leases
- Salaries & expenses
- Bonuses & incentives
- Staff & Retrenchment
- And a lot more

👉🏻 Fact is, this is a new world order & we ought to be prepared.
