Thread /

This thread is about how geographical sectionalism has resulted in America being an outlier in dealing with the pandemic. In simplest of terms , it's about the partisan views of Americans based on geographical scenario.1/n
Two party system means that you have democrats representing the urban population while republicans have more influence in suburban and rural population.
Pandemic first started to spread in urban centres which clearly doesn't offer any electoral incentive to republicans .2/n
When the pandemic was limited to urban population , rural people decided to ignore it and continued with their daily chores . Things started to exacerbate when the pandemic moved in suburbs.3/n
Lack of awareness among the rural population played a crucial role there. Culturally , their interest is mostly limited to local issues and more often than not , their social network is not large as compared to people living in big cities . They were least worried .3/n
In earlier stages , the Trump administration decided to leave any decision making to the States ( largely democrats) because it didn't concern their core voters. 4/n
Also they were scared to close the suburban areas owing to the interests of businessmen and daily workers. It was only after the major outbreak in rural areas that Trump administration took the matter in their own hands . It resulted , atleast for a brief period , a non 5/n
The development of non partisan views among the Americans . Although this is not expected to last any longer . Protests in small cities to lift the ban has already started . It will be interesting to see how America deals with this pandemic and the looming recession.n/n
