so emotion is about (e)motion; a feeling propels you forward, towards someone/something.

which is why suicide and self harm becomes a default, or a simply a place to go, in trauma / stagnancy, because it is one place that clearly propels you from numbness/stagnancy into newness
suicide and self harm also require little to no emotion, whereas most things we love require some love feeling to propel us towards it. this is why it can be hard to "just do things you like!" when you are in a dark place.

it's easier to sink than to claw yourself upwards.
maybe this is why people and people's true care and love can be so healing; energy breeds energy, even for introverts. you may be given energy by proximity. energy is emotion is motion.

i can confidently say platonic love is the most healing thing i have encountered.
but that presents a problem, doesn't it? to experience platonic love, you must have people near you that are able and willing to offer it, healthy.

and you must be able to believe them.

which is very difficult !!! esp when you've been burned.

it's okay to protect urself
so what do you do to create (e)motion?
sometimes motion will come once you believe it is possible, and this doesn't need to come from pain, tho sometimes that feels easiest.

this is where the classic 5 senses exercise comes into play. remember death's sky in the book thief?
rather than generate ur own (e)motion, sometimes the next best thing is to prove to urself that motion exists
so when u name 5 things u see,4 u feel etc, u need to repeat this sometime later.
there has been change. one moment is not like before! motion is real! now is not forever
this concept of (e)motion is sometimes fairly literal; moving your body in exercise literally creates feel good mood chemicals in your brain.

motion changes your emotions.
emotion creates a need for you to move in a direction, emotionally and physically.
this concept is why isolation in a pandemic feels SO tricky. there is no movement. this is the point.

it is hard to feel free to feel or move when you are contained and preoccupied with survival which is staying in place.
when every day feels the same, how can we believe change is real?
