It’s hard to get it excited that the NWHL is coming to Toronto when all the best players in the world don’t play in the league. You can call it “professional women’s hockey” but without the best players playing, it’s semi-professional at best.
Fair points by some of you. It is unfair to call the league “semi-professional” because it does contain some of the best players in the world. But, a vast majority of those players have decided not to play in this league to help further the growth of women’s hockey.
I just can’t share in the short term excitement that some have about this league coming here without ALL the best players playing in it because I feel it makes it harder to get women’s hockey where it needs to be as a professional league.
I wish these players well but I feel it hurts what the PWHPA is trying to do for the future of the game.
