My blood hasn't stopped boiling since I read this post from one of my very favorite journalists, @SalenaZito. While I have loved and learned much from all her posts, this one disappointed, bigly. 1/ https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/salena-zito-interviews-gov-tom-wolf-our-lives-are-now-being-governed-by-coronavirus?utm_source=Salena+Zito&utm_campaign=6b710e333e-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_04_24_04_58&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_06ac76b2f8-6b710e333e-364075953
Salena has carved an important and valuable niche in our otherwise infected media culture by focusing on real people in real towns who do real things - places and people most reporter fly over or ignore. This story veers off in a very different direction. 2/
Salena chose to do a "profile" (puff) piece on PA Gov. Tom Wolf, who is largely responsible for decimating the livelihoods of the very people she often writes about, with his ill-advised if not corrupt management of our state's #COVID crisis. 3/
Listen to @PAManufacturers' Dave Taylor or others, who could have helped Salena prepare for her interview with honest reports of real damage Wolf's mismanagement has caused, from textile manufacturers to ventilator parts makers whom he shut down. 4/
Yes, I know there are polls giving Gov. Wolf "high marks" for his "management." All state governors are getting similar marks, and it underscores a reality - people are cheering for their leaders in a crisis to be successful. We all cheer for Tom Wolf. But facts matter. 5/
I want to encourage one of my favorite journalists to return to her expertise and reach out to the victims of Wolf's mismanagement. They are legion. Talk to construction people who were forced to shut down, unlike most other states. 6/
Ask why the real estate and other professional industries were shut down when they could have easily operated under social distancing rules. Ask why he couldn't allow social distancing policies being used and imposed on grocery stores for other retail outlets. 7/
Salena should talk to manufacturers who were in critically important - life essential - supply chains who were shut down. Talk to the 30,000 people who applied for "waivers" from the shutdown, and maybe ask why Gov. Wolf refused to be transparent about his winners and losers. 8/
Furthermore, Salena may want to explore why, in my PA county (Delaware), 71% of our Coronavirus deaths occur in nursing homes & extended care centers. Businesses were shut down, but why weren't nursing homes protected? Would have been an interesting question. 9/
I hope some of my friends in PA who've been harmed by Wolf's damaging if not corrupt shutdown policies and procedures will reach out to @SalenaZito. She needs to hear your story.
