Once again, Goldsmith has provided a model for what opposition can look like in a time of national unity: a respect for the collective effort that is only *led* by the govt, but is *our* collective effort, and a absolute focus on being constructive. https://twitter.com/MatthewHootonNZ/status/1254130046131830784?s=19
I think the arguments that we've developed an allergy to criticism (of the govt) misses the nature of it. That reaction is against "point scoring", the feeling that it's for the professional gain of politicians/journalists, rather than to be constructive.. https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/121247586/why-the-heroworship-of-jacinda-ardern-is-unhealthy?cid=app-iPhone
But also (less media, more Plan B types) the feeling of disrespect towards the effort that every single one of us were a part of, and which most of us are deeply invested in.
Like, maybe the problem isn't that "we" can't take criticism, but that the people who have something to say are insufficiently sensitive to the giant elephant in the room right now.
