Increased military presence coupled with the sudden surge of “communist insurgency” is no conincidence. This strategy is straight out of the Marcos playbook. None of these so-called communist-led killings are ideologically motivated, but they seem to happen anyway. Why is that?
The government has been skirting around the idea of declaring Martial Law for years now and in order for them to finally achieve that, they need to manufacture “threats” so that people will become more willing to trade certain fundamental rights in favor of security.
This has also always been the false narrative being propagated by Marcos apologists with regards to the martial law: that corruption exists across all administrations, but at least during the martial law, there was security. At least we had so-called “peace and order”.
When in fact, the peace and order, too, was manufactured (e.g. media censorship, forced disappearances, curtailment of human rights, etc.)

What the martial law achieved instead is granting the Marcoses unilateral control over all state resources, massive wealth acquisition, etc.
Marcos‘ underlings eventually came clean about manufacturing the bombings that were, during the time, pinned on leftist groups who were merely organizing peaceful demonstrations. These bombings eventually “necessitated” the declaration of the martial law.
Point is, we don’t have to look far to see where these chain of events will take us, and how our inability to critique the government and hold it to account will eventually bite us back in the ass. All of this has already transpired in the past. All we have to do is look.
Anyway, read Primitivo Mijares’ “The Conjugal Dictatorship of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos”. If you doubt the author’s credibility, he was Ferdinand Marcos’ former aide and chief propagandist in 1975. For a crash course on the book, watch @immanuellakant’s videos on twitter.
