A few years ago I used to have a dope apartment in the UK on a well known street nearby John Lewis, a popular department store.

Almost every day I'd walk past this store to go for breakfast, and I'd see a guy sitting outside selling wishes for £1 a go.

One day I asked him...
"Why don't you charge £5 instead of £1? The increased price would more than make up for the loss in sales and you could downsell the 'No's for £1 instead."

He thought this was pretty smart, so I gave him 5 minutes of my time and we got talking...
Turned out he was a PhD. Physicist who used to work at CERN. Research funding dried up & no new projects hired him... kept trying to get funding instead of adapt.

1 year later he's behind the times & out of the loop...

2 years later, wife left him, lost his house, homeless...
Research projects wouldn't hire him because he hadn't published a paper in years & had become irrelevant.

Refused to get something like a mcdonalds job as he was 'over qualified'

Genius level IQ, reduced to selling 'wishes' by the side of the road, because he wouldn't adapt.
During this conversation, I asked him "How come I always see you on the way to breakfast, but when I come back you're always gone? Do you move spots."

"No," he revealed. "I just stay here until I have enough money for today then I stop."

Absolute madness.
At the end of the day when it came to saving his career, saving his marriage & saving his house.

His IQ meant nothing.

His PhD & credentials meant nothing.

His passion for science meant nothing.

The only thing that mattered was his work ethic, which was sorely lacking.
After that I stopped seeing him so regularly.

One day I bumped into him, turned out he took my advice to charge £5 and didn't 'need' to stay as long.

This dude actually chose to beg less, instead of make more so he could stop being homeless!

I just shook my head and left.
It used to say in my bio that I have a genius level IQ (99.9th percentile Stanford-Binet 5) but I removed it because it basically has no correlation to results.

Action & work ethic matter more than IQ.

Plenty of high IQ people are broke because they did nothing with it.
While some of the dumbest people on the planet are rich.

Because they found a good strategy, took action, and were too stupid to worry about the consequences.

They just had work ethic and were committed to success.

If you're dedicated enough, that's really all it takes.
