Toxic femininity is very much a thing. It's present in how girls are raised to view other women as competitors which then leads to so many women who attain some level of success to close the door behind them.
It's present in how some women - aka the Karen - weaponise https://twitter.com/sullypov/status/1254136896302661632
their femininity to use it as a stick to beat those who don't conform to dominant narratives of default femininity (which in the West conveniently overlaps with white femininity making everyone else the Other).
Toxic femininity is the driving force behind transphobic movements that are borne of a womanlier than thou vibe. Where they turn femininity into both something inimitable, unattainable outside birthright and something that only non-cis women adoot to oppress 'real' women.
It's present in the policing that (often) older women do of younger women's gender performativity.
It's why some women see women smokers as less feminine, for example, even tho nicotine doesn't discriminate whose health it destroys.
Lastly, it's present in how some women with privilege use their femininity to disparage & dehumanise others. Like being obviously afraid cuz you're alone in a lift with a black man, being convinced the trans girl peeing in the next stall is a fetishistic rapist, being
uncomfortable sharing changing rooms with gay women and basically any other "Karen" thing.
You see it in the transphobic feminism of Hadley Freeman, you see it in the F you got mine meanness of Blair White and you see it in the unflinching fanaticism of the late Mother Angelica.
It's marianismo, head girl gender critical feminism, feminised racism & performative piety.
