Go read Luke 14 and tell me Jesus doesn't have something to say about the Western church's opulent disregard for the poor.
"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
"Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame."
When Paul, Peter, James, and John agreed to let Paul serve as the apostle to the Gentiles, Paul added this addendum: "Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do." The first church accepted their Lord's priorities.
Does the evangelical church get this? The church has an obligation to the poor.
