I feel like crowdsourcing this thing because I said I wouldn't write it but I also said I would (and my SCA/SVA #Distribute2020 talk is about it). But as some of you know, I was collecting images of 'heroes', angels, warriors + saints associated w/ the #Covid19 response in the US
As much as I have loved and been inspired by images of edible Fauci (cupcakes and cookies, I love them, but really), I thought the more interesting visuals were those depicting him as a saint. Twitter discussions of his 'saintliness' have focused on a few things:
(1) intercession - as somehow mediating/moderating public health concerns in relation to the 'big guy' in charge
(2) patience: his calm, collected way of bearing witness to 45's fuckery
(3) expertise on a 'stage' where ignorance is idolized/a virtue
when 'saint' is used derisively to refer to fauci, it's usually to underscore his being above reproach, while he is conspiring with public health oligarchs like bill gates and big pharma
