Thread: I am growing increasingly concerned about the "hundreds" of inmates that have been released from federal prisons, and the lack of answers from the Minister responsible. https://thepostmillennial.com/trudeau-government-releases-hundreds-of-prisoners-due-to-coronavirus">https://thepostmillennial.com/trudeau-g...
/ Minister Blair implied that they are being released due to #COVID19, but it is not clear that these are additional releases or whether these are just normal parole and statutory release cases.
/ To be blunt, it appears parliamentarians and Canadians are being intentionally kept in the dark on this, which I find very concerning. Even Canada’s prison watchdog has told the media that he has been unable to attain any information on the inmate early release plan.
/ The Minister needs to answer these important questions: Has correctional programming for offenders also been suspended, and how are offenders preparing for possible future release if access to programming isn’t available?
/ How many offenders have been granted early release to date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how does that compare to releases year over year? When was the first inmate released as a result of COVID-19 concerns?
/ By what mechanism/process is the govt accomplishing the supposed release of additional offenders, when the parole board is an independent administrative tribunal empowered by law that should not be directed or pressured?
/ Prime Minister Trudeau and his government need to be accountable to Parliament & Canadians. Over the last 2 days, I raised these questions @ the Parliamentarian Technical Briefing on COVID-19. The responses given were not sufficient. We all deserve answers to these questions
