The majority of countries that criminalise homosexuality do so because they inherited laws during European colonial rule which were informed by a Christian understanding of morality. Yet the focus is always on Islam when we talk about homophobic countries. It's infuriating. https://twitter.com/kmelkhat/status/1254041088920297477
It comes down to a) a wilful ignorance towards Islam, b) a general indifference in the West towards queer communities abroad and c) latent islamophobia.

To suggest that Islam is somehow more homophobic than Christianity is literally ignorant to the facts.
To have someone characterise an entire religion as anti-gay & then CHOOSE to air it & validate the implication is awful. This conversation would never have happened if someone dressed as a nun, or a monk, or in any regalia that implied Christianity. And that says it all.
Queer muslims are a part of our community - we should not be encouraging or endorsing this prevailing narrative that serves to question the validity of their existence. Sending love to the queer muslim community - and a belated Ramadan Mubarak!
