The most compelling argument for the existence of toxic femininity is one where women become so deferential that they defer to behaviors that harm themselves or others. I agree this occurs, but it’s not inherent. It only becomes harmful based on the behavior of an external party.

If I’m extremely deferential, nurturing, or cooperative, that doesn’t hurt me or anyone. It takes the behavior of third party to make these things harmful, and again, that is by design. Traits of femininity are intentionally reactive or secondary vs. active or primary.
