I grew up Jewish. There was much anti-queer sentiment in the texts we studied and homophobia and transphobia in the stuff I was taught. No one has ever been like, wow how does being Jewish square with being bisexual the way people question queer and trans Muslims.
I'm still very culturally Jewish. I speak Hebrew. I do all the holidays. No one is ever on my ass about it in the way I see people badger queer Muslims. You think Catholicism isn't homophobic? Girl.
At some synagogues I went to women sat in the back of the room. Male friends couldn't touch women. Huge focus on the gender binary. Obsession with procreating and biological children coming from a marriage. And yet, when I wear a Jewish star, little to no questioning of queerness
I incorporate my ethnicity and religion with my queerness. Lots of Christian people do. Lady Gaga's Judas? Half the outfits on Drag Race -- Monet X Change basically dressed as the Pope? Like, extend that to Islam and stop singling it out as being worse than other religions.
