I'm happy to announce that for the past month, I've been working as a sports reporter at the North Platte Telegraph!
There's been a lot I've been doing since I've gotten to North Platte, Nebraska. And I wanted to share some of the stories I've worked on since then:
There's been a lot I've been doing since I've gotten to North Platte, Nebraska. And I wanted to share some of the stories I've worked on since then:
Like this one from the Hershey High School tennis team, who had seniors push for new uniforms this season, only to not get the chance to wear them. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-hershey-seniors-trissa-wilson-keyana-hastings-pushed-for-new-tennis-uniforms-now-they/article_5f766386-86b9-11ea-9feb-8306eceb18d7.html
Then there's the Wallace track team. A relatively young team with a talented freshman class and two senior leaders on the team. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-wallace-seniors-miss-out-on-chance-to-lead/article_bde5a488-86b7-11ea-a731-07d0cfec4717.html
The Hershey track team's seniors won't get that satisfying last push due to the loss of their season. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-hershey-track-and-field-seniors-won-t-get-satisfying-last-push/article_4ed4f368-86b8-11ea-836b-6fffba06370a.html
A young Wallace golf team with many first-year players face setback due to lack of season. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/young-wallace-golf-team-faces-setback-with-lack-of-season/article_ba42a028-86b8-11ea-9170-cb7c9e6f6ab4.html
An experienced Hershey golf team had many options for the five varsity spots, including a handful of seniors. Now they won't get that chance. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-hershey-golfer-josh-eshleman-didn-t-think-a-lost-match-to-a-teammate/article_11943666-86b9-11ea-a57d-4f50c1bccafe.html
I've also written about new coaches at Maxwell High School. The first is Quin Conner for the boys' basketball team, a former assistant coach at Conestoga High School. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/maxwell-hires-conestoga-assistant-as-boys-basketball-coach/article_bed0288c-7f91-11ea-af14-17b2c29b2dc6.html
On the girls' basketball side, Maxwell also hired Lane Swedberg, a former middle school coach, to run its program. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/maxwell-hires-wallace-native-lane-swedberg-to-take-over-girls-basketball-program/article_c13dab36-8512-11ea-968b-3f24a25f55ed.html
Staying on Maxwell and returning to the "Lost Season" articles, this is one for the Maxwell track team as well. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-offseason-work-won-t-pay-dividends-for-maxwell-seniors/article_3f261310-812d-11ea-8bae-cb11b5201453.html
And we have Brady High School's track team as well, featuring TJ Roe's story of trying to get more State appearances than his older brother did. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/lost-season-brady-trackster-tj-roe-wanted-to-beat-his-brother-by-appearing-4-times/article_20564828-812e-11ea-8d96-fbd3de99944c.html
Finally, my first two stories published. The first was on the North Platte St. Patrick's High School track team and a few of their senior athletes who won't get another shot at states this year. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/no-last-shot-at-a-state-run-hard-offseason-work-won-t-pay-off-for/article_cea90174-7ba5-11ea-a895-ff5c42ccfb19.html
And last but not least, the story of the St. Pat's golf team, including an athlete who was going for his 12th varsity letter, but won't get it once the season was canceled. https://www.nptelegraph.com/sports/without-a-shot-at-redemption-after-being-runner-up-st-pat-s-golf-had-eye/article_28200626-7ba6-11ea-a1a6-977cfb6f8498.html
Being in a new place by yourself is both scary and exciting, but I've enjoyed the work I've done so far. Nothing but grateful for the opportunity, and hopefully you guys will follow me on this new journey!
